The name
Wekos takes its name from wekwos — the reconstructed Proto-Indo-European root that gave rise to words like voice, vocal, and vocabularyacross dozens of the world's languages. It means, simply, to speak.
That's the whole point. Most language apps optimise for retention metrics, streaks, and gamification. We optimise for one thing: getting you to the point where you can open your mouth and actually say something.
The method
Every session starts with a real sentence — something a native speaker would actually say. We break it into its vocabulary, then its phrases, then put it back together. You hear it, see it, and drill it until it stops feeling foreign.
Grammar isn't a lecture. It appears as a brief explanation at the exact moment you've already seen the pattern in context — when it clicks rather than when it overwhelms.
The philosophy
No streaks. No coins. No cartoon mascots. No leaderboards designed to keep you anxious rather than fluent. If you want to learn a language, you need focused repetition and clear feedback — not a Skinner box.
Wekos is built for people who are serious about it.
